HIGHER EDUCATION

The experienced ASL choice for higher education

At Dovetail Communication Group, we regularly provide ASL interpreting services at colleges and universities nationwide. With a team of more than 200 highly qualified, experienced interpreters, we are equipped to provide ASL interpreting services for students at every stage of the college or university process, from first-year undergraduate through postgraduate degree.

Our team of interpreters

Our ASL interpreters are chosen for their certification level, skill level, and experience. At Dovetail, 66% of our interpreters have earned either a BEI Advanced, BEI Master, or RID National Certification. These certifications represent the highest levels of professional mastery as an ASL interpreter—and we take great pride in having cultivated a team of interpreters with this industry-leading level of certification! In addition, our interpreters bring a wide range of professional experience and life experience to the table, which helps us meet the diverse needs of higher education students in a variety of different disciplines.

ASL INTERPRETING IN THE CLASSROOM

First and foremost, we want students to succeed academically, which means finding the right interpreter or interpreters for their courses or academic internships. In the college or university setting, it is crucial to use qualified, experienced interpreters who are familiar with the all the terminology used in the academic discipline in question. We carefully pair our clients with ASL interpreters who have the specific skills and experience that the situation calls for. Working with the right interpreter can make a big difference in a student’s academic success.

ASL SUPPORT BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

In addition to support in the classroom, we also provide ASL interpreters for Deaf and hard of hearing students who receive academic internships. Our interpreters have worked with students in a variety of internship settings, ranging from dental school residency to architecture and teaching internships.

Finally, we also provide support for extracurricular activities. From clubs to intramural sports to volunteer work, we provide qualified interpreters to facilitate communication so that students get the most of out of their college or university experience

WE SUPPORT EACH STUDENT‘S UNIQUE NEEDS

We work closely with college and university SSD offices (Services for Students with Disabilities) to determine the best way to meet the needs of each Deaf or hard of hearing student, and to help them succeed in the higher education environment.

We provide both in-person ASL interpreting as well as video remote interpreting (VRI). VRI is sometimes the preferred option in the college and university setting, since it lets students work with interpreters across the country. (This gives students access to interpreters who have experience in their specific area of study.)

IT’S TIME TO THRIVE

Working with our highly qualified, experienced interpreters, students can achieve their academic goals and thrive in the higher education environment.
