At Dovetail Communication Group, we provide in-person and remote American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter services in the Austin area as well as throughout Texas. (In addition, we offer all of our specialty ASL services nationwide). We have a group of more than 200 highly qualified, experienced interpreters who have the skills to handle any situation they encounter.
American Sign Language is its own unique language—completely independent from English. It takes ASL interpreters many years to develop the skills to accurately convey a speaker’s meaning while also conveying the appropriate nuance and emotion behind the words. This is why we are so careful about choosing the right interpreters to work for us. When you use our qualified, experienced ASL interpreters, you can have complete confidence in the accuracy of the communication. At Dovetail, our goal is to make the communication experience positive, engaged, and productive for everyone involved—both Deaf and hearing.
ASL Interpreters are chosen for their certification level, skill level, and experience. At Dovetail, 66% of our interpreters have earned either a BEI Advanced, BEI Master, or an RID National Certification. These certifications represent the highest levels of professional mastery as an ASL interpreter—we take great pride in having cultivated a team of interpreters with this industry-leading level of certification. In addition to certifications, we evaluate and test every interpreter applicant to verify that their skill level is up to Dovetail standards.
The end result of our selective process is that we have a team of highly qualified, highly experienced interpreters who bring a wide range of experiences and expertise to the table. They have interpreted at homeless shelters, at Fortune 500 companies, and at Broadway shows. They have worked with DHS detainees, and they have worked with Ph.D. students. Many ASL interpreting scenarios call for specific expertise, skills, or personalities. We try to pair our clients with the right ASL interpreters who have the specific skills and experience that the situation calls for. And for a client who has ongoing interpreting needs, we try to consistently pair them with the same interpreter.
We provide both in-person ASL interpreting as well as video remote interpreting (VRI). VRI is typically done over Zoom or a similar video conferencing platform. So all you need is a computer, a laptop, or a mobile device as well as an internet connection..
In general, we recommend in-person interpreting whenever it is practical. However, in some circumstances, video remote interpreting can be an effective option. We would be happy to talk to you about which interpreting option might be right for your needs.
